How do I gain power for football

Postby bobby on Tue Jan 15, 2008 1:50 am

I am 5' 10" 175lbs and play defensive back and some slot receiver. I cannot seem to get off the line for I am getting jammed when the play starts and cannot block well either

HELP

You need power to get off the line of scrimmage and to plant a defensive player when you are blocking.

How old are you and tell me about your workouts.

Coach I am in two different post sections here - but I am going to keep them both going. That could help your members also

Thanks Coach!

I am lifting 5 times a week. We are doing some of the BFS training programs I think. I do deadlift, benches, squats, and cleans to my max everyday.

But I have lost weight and and am not getting any stronger

What am I doing wrong?

5 Times a Week!! The doing power exercises each daym the same routine each day, and also probably going for max lifts each day>

That is a blueprint for NO GAINS and also to incurr some serious injures!

You need to rest a bodypart at least one day after you work it.

Hey Coach,

I followed the routine that you sent me and I have now gained 8 lbs over the summer and went from a 4.7 to a 4.5 forty yard dash!!

I feel incredible and in our passing league I kicked ASS as a receiver and DB!!

THANKS!!
Bobby

You need to really concentrate on strength, speed, and explosive training to play football.

You need to get on a four day a week weight training program and break your body down into 2 different body parts ( legs, chest, triceps, and then back- shoulders- biceps).

Then make sure you are doing explosive sprints and plyo- work 2-3 times a week to go along with it.

You can read more about football training on my site at
